We can all get into a routine when we start the new year, and whilst some of us strive for routine, for others it is their worst nightmare. So for those who want to break the routine and add a little bit of excitement back into their working day, here are our best ideas!

The Daily Grind Can Get Hectic

The Daily Grind Can Get Hectic

  1. Try something new for lunch everyday – If you can afford it, try a new restaurant, coffee shop or take-out for lunch each day. If you can’t afford that – find an awesome recipe for each day of the week and bring it into work with you. The variety will be enjoyable, and you’ll look forward to trying new tastes each day!
  2. Join Spotify – If you feel a bit bored in your office life and feel the need to inject some life back into it then setting yourself up on Spotify is a great idea. Share your playlists with work mates and occasionally when you get a great recommendation, it’ll make your day!
  3. Do a work “Come Dine With me” – Take it in turns to cook for each other during the course of a month or so, and score each other after each meal. The winner gets all their lunch the following month bought for them.
  4. Plan something great for after work – If you have something really exciting planned for the evening then you’ll find the day doesn’t feel so bad because you have something to look forward to. Whether you plan a meal at your favourite restaurant or a movie with friends, the thought of a great night out will keep you going through the long day.
  5. Organise theme days with your colleagues – This isn’t for everyone, but if you have a casual, friendly working environment then organising theme days is a fun way to make the week liven up a little. For example, one day everyone has to wear their funniest pair of socks, or their most embarrassing outfit. There has to be a prize for the winner though!
  6. Join twitter – joining twitter is a great way to keep up to date with current affairs, but also to keep up to date with what’s going on in your industry. Take half an hour in the middle of the day to catch up on stuff like this and you’ll the pressure of work ease off for a while.
  7. Send a random text to someone important to you – Send someone you love a random text in the middle of the day. Make it something nice or something romantic. It’ll make them even more excited to see you after work, and it’ll put a smile on your face knowing you put a smile on theirs.
  8. Send yourself a postcard at work – Postcards don’t arrive for weeks after you send them so next time you take a vacation send yourself a postcard (but send it to your work address). You’ll get it randomly one day and it’ll bring a smile to your face.

Saving money when you’re out spending it may seem like an impossible feat, but that is exactly what happens if you’re a pro at bargain shopping. Smart shoppers know how to make that dollar go the extra mile, allowing them to get the items they want at prices that can’t be beat. It’s easy to save money on some of your favorite things as long if you know what to look for. Here are 11 helpful tips that will make bargain shopping a cinch.

Make a List

If you buy things just because they’re on sale and not because you really want them, your purchases don’t really count as bargains. Before you go shopping, make a list of the things you want or need so that you’re able to remember just what it was you went out to buy in the first place. Look for bargains that are on your list and stay focused. If you get too distracted by the myriads of other seemingly great bargains, you’ll just end up spending money on things you don’t need and your plan to bargain shop will have gone out the window. Make a shopping plan before you even go out the door and even more importantly, stick to it.

Use Coupons

Coupons Help Save Money

Coupons Help Save Money

You can find coupons for just about anything from groceries to electronics, and using them when you shop will definitely save you some money. A great place to find lots of money-saving coupons is the Sunday newspaper. If you don’t get the Sunday paper, ask family and friends who do to save the coupon inserts for you if they aren’t using them. You can also find an endless number of coupon databases online–simply search for coupons that you want to use, select, and print.

Buy Off-Season Merchandise

One of the best times to find some real bargains is during the off-season. Off-season merchandise is typically discounted as much as 50 to 90%–and as long as the items you buy are ones you plan on using at some point, why not stock up for next year? You can save big on clothing, outdoor tools and equipment, holiday merchandise, and more, simply by waiting until the season is over to buy it.

Watch Sales Ads and Fliers

Keep a close eye on sales ads and fliers that you find in the newspaper, in stores, and on TV. Big sales are likely to be advertised, and they usually indicate feature sale items along with their prices. Knowing when the sales are and what you will be able to find at them are bargain shopping musts.

Compare Prices

Comparing prices is one of the easiest ways to make sure you’re getting a bargain–especially when it comes to buying pricier items such as electronics and appliances. You don’t have to travel from store to store to compare–you can usually find out everything you need to know online, saving you both time and gas money. If you really want to pinch pennies, compare the small stuff, too. You can stand to save a significant amount of money by looking at all of your options first.

Check out the Clearance Section

Most stores have designated sales or clearance sections, and those areas are usually where you can find the biggest discounts. Clearance sections aren’t usually featured front and center in a store–you can typically find them way in the back, off to the side, or inconspicuously displayed on end caps. Stores want you to spend more money by shopping regularly priced merchandise, so the bargain bins aren’t going to be the first thing you come across when you’re out shopping.

Buy Used

If you’re looking for items for your own personal use, there’s no shame in buying them used if you can. Thrift stores, yard sales, and flea markets are some of the best places to find quality secondhand items–and don’t forget to look online as well. Some of the best bargains are often found on used or recycled items–and both your bank account and the planet will benefit.

Stick with Store-Brands

Brand names typically come with higher price-tags, and although they’ve earned their right to be on top through hard-earned customer loyalty, many of them aren’t much different than their generic counterparts. In fact, if you compare the labels between well-known brands and store brands, you may find that you’re paying more mostly for the name and not a whole lot else. If you can, give up some of your favorite brand name items and try the store brands–the amount you can save will really add up.

Shop at Discount and Dollar Stores

Shopping at discount and dollar stores may seem like a no-brainer, but many of us by-pass them if we’re rushed or if they’re not located just around the corner. Discount stores sell most of their merchandise at already low prices, and when you use coupons or shop special sales on top of that, you’ll experience bargain shopping at its best.

Negotiate the Price

Sharpening up your negotiating skills is another way to get what you want for much less. Don’t be afraid to make an offer on something if negotiating is an option–you have nothing to lose and only a lower price to gain.

Join Frequent Shopper Programs

Many stores offer frequent shopper or buyer rewards programs not only to show their customers that they’re appreciated, but also to keep them coming back for more. Many frequent shopper programs are free to sign up for, and in most cases you’ll receive either a punch card or a card that can be scanned so that the store can keep track of your purchases and reward you with special coupons, discounts, and other benefits in the future.

Anyone can learn how to spot a true bargain. By incorporating some of these tips into your regular buying excursions, you, too, can become a master of the art of bargain shopping.

When I got married, I wasn’t particularly close to the clerics in my church, and so I decided it would be nice to have someone a bit special perform the ceremony. Wouldn’t it be nice to round the circle a bit and have the priest who baptized me also perform my wedding ceremony?  I went about finding him and although it was not easy, (this was years ago, before the days when computer searches made such quests so easy) I was very happy that I did.  He was serving as an army chaplain, and was very happy himself to have a chance to get away.

Besides the sentimental value of having this priest, I can tell you that it made for a lot of interesting conversation at the wedding. Wouldn’t it be nice if you could have some long lost people from your past to celebrate your happy day with you? Luckily, today this is not only a fun idea, but can even be an easy one with the websites now available.  Just who would you like to invite to your wedding?

Wedding Invitation Lists Can Be Small Or Large

Wedding Invitation Lists Can Be Small Or Large

Childhood friends

Just imagine being able to share your special day with your best friend from when you were six years old!  Those sweet, innocent days will come back to you in a heartbeat as soon as you see her.  The first step will be to Google her name and see if you get any hits.  If she is married, this will make it difficult, but often people keep their maiden names, especially if they are in certain professions, such as nursing.  If you have no luck there, you will have to see if you can use the “degrees of separation” theory.  Somewhere out there, is someone that you know that also still knows your friend.  Get in touch with stores in your old neighborhood: perhaps same family owns it and knows where your friend moved, or if she got married.  It may even be as simple as going to her old house; perhaps the new owners know where her family moved.  Do you know where she went to high school? Maybe you could contact the alumnae association.

High School friends

A site has been developed for this exact purpose.  If you haven’t done so already, you can get a membership on HighSchool.com, find your school and locate students from your class.  If your friend has kept in touch with the school, even if she is married, she will be listed there with her high school name.  If she is not registered, it will be a little more difficult, but you can post a message that you are looking for her. And then, of course, there is Facebook. Many high school groups have formed pages to keep in touch with one another, so look for the name of your high school, as well as the name of your friend.

Relatives

Sadly, some people have a falling out with a relative and decide not to keep in touch.  Perhaps your mother and her sister had a falling out over Grandma’s jewelry (this is not as uncommon as you may think) and so you lost touch with your aunt and your cousins.  The day of your wedding should be a joyful time of reunion, so this may be the perfect time to ask mom to bury the hatchet and help you find them.  This may be the easiest search of all, since other relatives have probably kept in touch, and they can be contacted.  If not, sites such as peoplefind.com or even ancestry sites can help you find your relatives, the ones who are alive as well as the ones who have passed on!

In case you ever found that your loved one has been put to prison to whatever reason, read the main article on Bail Bonds Nation which should help you find a good bail bondsman for your state.

Truth be told, most people are not able to go a day without getting on the Internet; whether at home or on the run. Mobile Internet started with the laptop; great inventions in its own standing, but most laptops are still too big and unable to just flip into a back pocket.

Fortunately for the generation now, many companies have designed cell phones that are capable of connecting to the Internet. The downfall? The cell phones don’t always give us the best Internet experience (unless an iPhone is involved). So until a customized cell phone is built specifically for mobile browsing, there are many mini browser apps out there for us to use.

Opera Mini

Opera Mini Is One Option

Opera Mini Is One Option

This is a popular mini browser, with almost 20 million users, it’s guaranteed to have a good reason for being so popular. One reason to its possible success is the simple fact it’s included in most cell phones this days.

Opera Mini is incredibly fast with a superb compression that has the ability to play videos on-line. This app is available to download for free either directly from cell phones or from the Opera Mini Download screen.

UCWEB Mobile Browser

A veteran among mini web browsers, it is most popular in China, and is currently available to download for free from Java. Built almost like a traditional browser, UCWEB is rather noticeable for their features of tab-able browsing and password managers.

Some other added features that UCWEB has to offer as a mini browser is the special e-mail service that can run with any on-line mailboxes (Yahoo!, Google+, and more). There is also the ability to synchronize PC, phone, and web browser favorites to ones cell phone, like a personal data secretary.

Teashark

The developers took a bold step in making this mini browser function in only one format, (Java MIDP 2.0) because the browser is now capable of working on any brand of cell phone. It shares some similar features as UCWEB, such as the tab-able browsing with a full screen browsing function.

Teashark has a very clean, easy to use start-up page and can also offer recommended URLs based on previous searches or web visits. There is a slight downfall to the Teashark, however, and that’s the fact that there is no auto-connect ability when the phone is turned on. Users have to continually select the network each time they start mobile Internet.

Fennec

Surfing On Mobile Is Easy

Surfing On Mobile Is Easy

While still in the testing procedures, it is only available for select mobile Internet devices (it is however available for home computers; so it can be tested before being used on a mobile device). Fennec has come up with great features including a “smart” URL that has a built-in web search browser that can be used with any search engines. One of the greater things is the built-in pop-up blocker; great for mobile devices so the Internet won’t lock up ones phone.

While the thought of using something other as an iPhone for mobile Internet browsing seems a little intimidating, it is possible. These mini web browsers are just a few of some great ones out there, so experimenting with the named mini browsers above is never a bad thing. Keep an open mind and a proper functioning phone, and all will be well.

Toxins from common household cleaners and the problems they can cause are becoming an increasingly big concern among parents. These cleaners are laden with man-made chemicals that can cause health issues like respiratory problems. If your household has pets, this should also be a concern.

Go Green While You Clean

Go Green While You Clean

Instead of just worrying about these issues, there is something you can do. Making your own cleaning products allows you to control every ingredient that goes into them. There are a few big bonuses that come along with this practice. The first is that most are super simple to make and use items you likely have in your pantry right now. The second bonus is that these products are very inexpensive and will actually cost less than buying the chemical cleaners. Finally, you will not only contribute to a healthier household but also to a healthier environment.

All-Purpose Cleaner

This is a general cleaner that can be used on most everyday surfaces. It has only three ingredients and can be made in seconds for just pennies. Here are the ingredients:

- 1 tbsp baking soda
- 2 tbsp liquid soap
- Water

It is best to use a natural liquid soap like Dr. Bronner’s, which is a castille soap. But in a pinch, any mild liquid soap will do. Combine the two ingredients into a gallon of water until they are well mixed. Use in a spray bottle for things like cleaning the top of the stove, counters, tables, desktops and the like. Store extra in a dark cool place so the water doesn’t evaporate. This is an unscented cleaner but you can make it scented by adding a few drops of an essential oil of your choice.

Glass Cleaner

Glass needs a special cleaner because regular cleaners will often leave streaks behind which can be very unsightly.

- 3 tbsp vinegar
- 1 cup warm water

Combine the two ingredients into a spray bottle and spray directly onto soiled windows. Wipe clean with a cloth or paper towel. This can also be used on mirrors, which also tend to get streaky if a special cleanser is not used on them. If the windows are particularly dirty (such as the outside of windows that haven’t been cleaned in awhile), then substitute the vinegar for rubbing alcohol instead.

Abrasive Cleaner

Sometimes the all-purpose cleaner just won’t cut it. Sometimes you need something with some real scrubbing power behind it for things like grout between tiles, especially ones in the shower. In cases like these, make this mild abrasive cleaner:

- 2 tbsp baking soda
- 2 tbsp liquid soap

Mix the soap and baking soda in a shallow dish. Add a little more soap if necessary until a paste is formed. Use this paste like you would use any liquid abrasive cleanser. Again, it is best to use a natural castille soap like Dr. Bronner’s.

Furniture Polish

Wood items need special care because wood is porous and can warp and distort very easily if not treated properly. Clean with this furniture polish to nurture and protect the wood:

- 1 cup olive oil
- 1/2 cup lemon juice

Combine the two well and dip a rag into the mixture. Polish furniture as usual. It doesn’t matter if the olive oil is regular or extra virgin since you won’t be cooking with it. You can also substitute orange for lemon for a different scent.

To make any of these cleaning products, you likely won’t have to buy very many ingredients, as most are already in your pantry. Even if they aren’t on hand, they are very cheap to buy and the cleaners are easy to make. When you add in the peace of mind that comes from not having dangerous chemicals in your house, the advantages of making your own cleaners far outweigh the convenience of pre-made cleaners. Try it today.

Believe it or not, the human body didn’t evolve to be woken up by a horrible screeching sound or a hammer smashing between two large bells rapidly. In fact, sunlight is the best thing for waking us up in the mornings!

While you can’t control the time that the sun rises, ensuring that you are wide awake and ready to get to work on time, there is a range of alarm clocks which now feature a light that simulates the light from the sun rising.

Alarm Clocks Don't Mimic Nature

Alarm Clocks Don't Mimic Nature

The alarm clocks allow you to set the time that you want to wake up by, and then usually around 30 minutes before the alarm goes off the light will slowly start to glow, getting brighter and brighter until the room is fully lit, just in time for the alarm to go off, however rather than a horrible beeping in your ears, you will have the choice between various gentle wake up calls, such as a bird song. Alternatively, many of the alarm clocks feature a radio function.

If you struggle to get to sleep at night, these light simulating alarm clocks can also help you get off to sleep quicker. Simply tell it how long you want the light to dim over and it will slowly start to dim the light, either in silence or while playing a calm and relaxing sound such as gentle waves or a quiet white noise which can help to block out background noise.

Unlike the real sun, your personal little sun box will not use a lot of energy either! Thanks to a range of low powered bulbs and improvements in green IT, these little rays of sunshine hardly consume any electricity at all.

Another tip for making sure that you feel as well as possible in the mornings is to set your first alarm for at least 15 minutes before you actually need to get out of bed, then a second for when you need to get out of bed. This means that you aren’t being woke up and instantly jumping out of bed, but instead you have a bit of time to properly wake up.

Finally, while its normal to put your alarm clock on your bedside cabinet, if you really struggle with waking up in the morning, put it on the other side of the room. It will mean that it’s not quite as loud and will also mean that you have to get out of bed to turn it off!

The author enjoys researching how technology can help us in our day to day lives. Whether its an alarm clock which simulates sunshine or a kettle that you can boil over the internet, technology is helping to make our lives much easier. He also has a keen interest in making sure that the technology is environmentally friendly as possible, ensuring that green IT is used whenever possible and that everything is recycled through the correct WEEE recycling procedures.

We’ve all lived next door to terrible neighbors, right? The 1am party animal, the hoarder with rusted machine parts everywhere, or the couple with the overgrown shrubs – we cringe every time we come home. But what used to be a minor nuisance is now a major problem for homeowners. With a down economy and a housing market in shambles, nasty neighbors are worse than black mold. At least with mold you can rip it out and start over. Unpleasant neighbors have a bit more staying power.

Seattle, WA Blotter

Seattle Loves Curb Appeal

Seattle Loves Curb Appeal

On one account, the rowdy next door neighbors to a Seattle, Washington couple forced the two to sell their home and move to another neighborhood – one with an HOA. The constant sight of rusty car parts, stinking trash cans and rotting tree stumps was too much for the couple to handle. Though they confronted their neighbor about the stench and suggested a reliable Seattle stump grinding company to restore curb appeal, it was all in vain.

It’s the same old tune for homeowners looking to sell. Living next to a disheveled lawn or obnoxious neighbor can cause a rift in buyers’ confidence. No matter if the house on the market is immaculate, buyers want to know that their new neighbors aren’t certifiably nuts. In fact, in many cases neighboring residences have devalued homes on the market by 10 percent. Homeowners fed up with boisterous neighbors have even given up on making a profit and gone to short-sell just to relocate immediately.

The Right Curb Appeal

Realtors know just how important it is to have impeccable curb appeal. Manicured lawns, professionally trimmed trees, cropped bushes, and a fresh coat of paint are hallmarks of desired homes for sale. Motivated homeowners do everything it takes to make sure they’re attracting the right buyer. But any sign of riff-raff in the surrounding community can devalue the home and make it extremely difficult for the owners to sell. Even though realtors are not at liberty to divulge specific information about the neighbors, perception is king. If the potential buyers aren’t comfortable living next door to a junkyard, the deal is off.

Though it may seem like unruly neighbors have the upper hand, there are ways to bring them to battle without bringing them to blows. Having open communication with your neighbors goes a long way to get your neighbors to shape up their property. After all, Seattle takes pride in improving its community and has spent millions of dollars on community projects.

However, if nasty neighbors are relentless, the problem can be taken up with Seattle City services. Properties in violation of city codes and ordinances are subject to citation. Property owners are usually given a grace period in which the city gives them time to clean up their property – trim trees, dispose of trash and waste, etc. If your outrageous neighbors fail to do so, they will be asked to pay a fine. It may just be the incentive they need to clean up their yard so you can live in peace.

My own mode of transport is a bust up little sedan; four-seats, half functioning sound system and malfunctioning windscreen wipers. It is definitely no luxury yacht, especially not one that claims to be worth £3 billion so it’s with an envious heart that I introduce you to the History Supreme. Officially the most expensive yacht in the world, the super luxury yacht is a 30-metre long with over 100,000 kilograms of gold and platinum covering over half its surface; if that wasn’t enough it comes kitted with a statue made of T-Rex dinosaur bone and a meteorite art fixture in the bedroom. The anonymous owner, I would imagine, is unlikely to allow the general public to experience the thrill of touring his luxury yacht and it is unlikely anyone would or could afford this luxury yacht if it were for sale.

How much luxury is on a yacht?

It is ridiculous how many luxurious and rare items have been crammed into this marvel; an aquarium made of 68kgs of pure gold and an 18.5ct Diamond liqueur bottle which is among the rarest in the world. The mega luxury yacht casts a dark shadow on the previous record holder worth a sixth of the History Supreme at $450 million. The ultimate yacht, which of the likes no one in ports around the world have come to see, took over three years for designer Stuart Hughes to complete; the eccentric gadget designer also boasts laptops, beds, cars and sits covered in precious stones. The luxury motor yacht will eventually be outdone we’re sure, but for the meantime it’s place in the world as the most expensive luxury yacht remains as embedded as the precious stones adorning it.

A Life Of Leisure Includes Yachting

A Life Of Leisure Includes Yachting

Is there any competition on the open seas?

The previous owner of the title was the luxurious yacht, Eclipse, which is owned by metals mogul and Chelsea FC owner Roman Abramovich. Its size is vastly larger than History Supreme yet for all the luxuries it’s nowhere near as expensive. Bullet proof windows, accommodations for 92 staff and guests, two helipads including a third hanger within and a military grade missile defence system designed to thwart pirates. Both of these luxury yachts are well within excess of necessity and yet without these fittings the definition of luxury would be lost.

Although the owner of the History Supreme has decided to remain anonymous, we’re sure he is very happy with the result; a floating palace of gold, platinum and rare artifacts that would make Indiana Jones blush. To charter this luxury yacht for a trip around the world would cost the average man more than he will make in a lifetime which begs the question, is it worth it? I’m not so sure, but all morality aside this filthy rich luxury yacht will continue to sail on in our dreams and the owner’s reality.

Dave Tucker likes odd gadgets and writing about them. He keeps an eye out for interesting technologies and innovative new electronics. Jes tumbled upon this story while doing a piece on private boat hire and came across this luxury vessel. Although the owner wouldnt allow him to visit the private river party boat, Dave found himself a story that was worth sharing with readers.

You might not know it, but there are many ways that propane use in your home can help lower energy bills, lessen your carbon footprint and increase your home comfort. Propane usage isn’t limited to just a few things, propane can actually provide energy to almost any room in the house. Let’s look at a few ways that propane is making heating, cooking and lighting homes across America into a effortless reality.

Bathrooms: According to the US Department of Energy, 20% of a home’s energy costs are spent heating their water alone! By choosing to heat your home’s water with a propane tank-less water heater, you are choosing not only an energy efficient way to do so, but also an environmentally friendly way of doing it. Savings for your wallet and the environment is always a good thing.

Propane Can Do More Than Cook

Propane Can Do More Than Cook

Laundry Rooms: If you don’t have the green option of hanging your clothes out to dry, the next best thing is a propane clothes dryer. They not only dry clothes faster, but also use a moist heat that helps keep your clothes from wrinkling in the dryer. Clothes come out of the dryer ready to go, saving you time and money in the process.

Kitchens: Ovens and cooktops are another way that you can use propane in your home. Although it would take more than this to help some people in the kitchen, propane cooktops help you get better heat control and more even distribution than electric stoves. They also cool-down more quickly than electric, lessening the chances of overcooking and little hands getting burned from still hot burners.

Outdoors: One of the most underutilized areas of your home to use propane is the outdoor areas. For those chilly nights in the fall, or the spring evenings that aren’t quite warm enough to sit outside, having a patio heater can raise the temperature up to 30 degrees. There is also the modern idea of bringing the indoors out, with gourmet outdoor kitchens complete with propane ovens, cooktops, and grills, which is over one hundred times more environmentally friendly than the old-school charcoal grills. Another way to make use of propane in your outdoor living area is to use propane lighting.

Of course, one can’t forget to mention heating the actual house when speaking about propane options. Having a propane furnace to heat the entire house is efficient due to the system which allows it to turn off when the optimal amount of heat has been delivered. Propane furnaces also have a shelf life of about 15-20 years, so you won’t have to worry about replacing them all the time. Some additional ideas for using propane to heat the home are radiant floor heating for those cold winter mornings, fireplaces, hearth stoves, and wall heaters.

Many of these propane appliances are available in many style, needs and prices ranges, so as you go to upgrade your home or to begin to build another one, don’t forget to consider your options with propane for lower energy bills, a cleaner environment and a warm, cozy home for you and your family to enjoy.
